iOS native
Concept, Design, Coding
Mid 2013
With the arrival of the new fresh iOS7 the FedEx Mobile application needed an overhaul. The features would remain mainly untouched but I had a chance to rethink many of the placements and concepts of the UI.
Design
Fresh and light with a few new gestures and paradigms. Finally a chance to add in our new navigation menu as well. Many of the concepts from prior versions of the app can be found here, but the clean, almost airy design makes it all feel very simple and clean.
The design process lasted only a few weeks once I settled on the bright and light theme. From there everything fell tightly into place. How best to treat a slide-in menu was a particular interest. I wrote the controls so they could slide from the side as was becoming more popular, or be presented in a modal controller. Modal was decided on for a more singular-focus presentation since there was still to be a keyboard and possible alert dialogs.
Even the section headers throughout the app got special attention to create even more separation for the content. Instead of the standard height headers I went with a taller element. The presentation created a strong open reading space, but proved more challenging than expected to implement.
