In early 2008 FedEx joined the Apple iPhone App bandwagon. It was very early in the iOS development world that we took a chance on a totally unproven platform — the future to those who looked seemed obvious. Turned out, it was a good choice.

The original version was envisioned as a Tracking App with a difference. It integrated with the FedEx InSight system so that all a customer’s shipments would be automatically added. They could, of course, add more by hand if they liked as well.

As a very early player in the continuously connected environment, the iPhone application shared all of it’s updates immediately with the FedEx Desktop and Advanced Tracking applications. This made it possible to make changes in one place and see them anywhere — long before the concept of Cloud computing and invisible syncing became the norm.
